Magritte meets Duchamp meets Kosuth
Rene Magrittes Treachery of Images (La trahison des images) shows a pipe that looks as though it is a model for a tobacco store advertisement, with a text painted below the pipe “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” (“This is not a pipe”). It might seem a contradiction, but is actually true: the painting is not a pipe, it is an image of a pipe. Joseph Kosuth developed this concept further, but we can say both were rooted in Duchamps readymades. With Manovichs concept of an object, ordered and delivered at a distance, we come to quantum theory and Ready-to-be-mades.
Don’t Measure My Time!
Machines dictate our rhythm. They make us lose our inner rhythm, divide our mind from our body and kill our intuition. Let’s fight back!
Duchamp’s Urinal and Climate Changes
In 1917, during the madness of the WW1, Marcel Duchamp pissed on the (art) world and the term “readymade” was born. Today, 100 years later, we are pissing on our planet, on the future of the humankind.
